Answers to the things people actually ask
Credits are what generating an app costs. The price depends on which model you choose in Settings → Quality, because a stronger model costs us proportionally more to run:
| Quality | An app costs | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Fast | 1 credit | Simple apps and small changes |
| Balanced | 10 credits | The default. Handles most apps |
| Best | 45 credits | Complicated apps. Needs a Pro plan |
A generation that fails costs nothing. The credits are returned automatically, not on request. The same applies when an app comes back too large to finish, or when the connection drops before it reaches you.
If an app fails our checks, Whimlet repairs it and those repairs are free. Fixing our own output is not something you should pay for.
Changing an app you already made costs less than generating a new one, because it edits what exists rather than writing it again.
Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep the plan you bought until then, and the app shows the date it changes.
Because the change is scheduled rather than immediate, going back to your old plan before that date is done in Apple's subscription settings rather than in Whimlet. The app links you straight there.
You keep everything until the end of the period you have paid for. Credits already in your balance stay yours. They do not expire when a plan ends.
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too: reportaproblem.apple.com. When Apple issues one, the credits it granted are removed from your balance.
On your device, and only there. We never receive the apps you make or anything you put inside them. That is a deliberate design choice, and it has one consequence worth knowing: if you delete an app, or delete Whimlet, it is gone. We have no copy to restore.
Press and hold an app in My Apps, then choose Rename & Icon. It is free and instant, with no regeneration.
Generated apps can use the camera, your location, notifications, motion, sound, dictation and more, but only what each app asks for, and only what you approve when you first open it. The built-in What Apps Can Do demonstrates every one of them.
Whimlet uses Sign in with Apple. There is no password to lose. Hide My Email works normally.
Settings → Account → Delete account permanently removes your account, balance and usage history, and revokes the Sign in with Apple grant. Apps already on your device are not affected. They are yours.
